Voting Experience

Election in Memphis EDITOR'S NOTE: Below are two of the staff at Disability Connection's experience voting this election.   Kendra Brown: Voting has always been important to me. I have been voting since 2000. I am amazed by how technology has improved over the years. When I first started, if there was more than one  visually impaired person  trying to vote at the same time somebody had to wait  until the other person was finished so they could be able to vote. There was only one machine.  Today the machines are two in one.  I like this  method better  because it saves on cost for the county, and this way allows more than one visually impaired person to vote at the same time. I took my kids and I went to vote on a Saturday. The process took about 20 minutes. A poll worker assisted me in verifying  my info was correct, presented me with my ballot and assisted me to a machine.  After I completed the process I printed the ballot  a...

The title is the topic

September 23, 2022 I did not post anything yesterday. I need to have some kind of purpose for this daily diary, or it becomes a blog.  My only topic so far has been just what my topic is. I think I am settled on making this about creating a new bike jornada but what I have not made is any commitments. I did go for a walk yesterday with Judy and we talked a little about this adventure. I feel that she is very supportive and she has given me the best ideas. One is that I use this as a planning format for the trip and actually plan and research some places to go to aid in my motivation and decision. All of this thinking was yesterday, but none made it to the blog. I need to have an exercise routine that will also help me to have content for this blog. Currently, I begin my day by noting that I have not done anything toward my new bicycle adventure. Maybe I will change that today. I cannot help but add in a photo from a past jornada. My next will include some kind of photo show with ed...

The goal and the blog

Image
Where am I going with this blog? It is my intension to create another bicycle adventure. A new jornada. I want to ride my bike and camp on some journey that I photograph. I suppose those are the essential elements: cycling, camping and photographing.  The thing I must recognize is that I am not ready. First, I am not in shape to make any kind of long ride. In the past, my cross-country bicycle trips I did not train for at all. The trip itself was my where I got the physical conditioning to make the remainder of the trip. This is first on the list because it is an essential need. My aerobic abilities have deteriorated and my weight  is unsustainable for any trip. I weigh about 70 pounds more than I did when I made my jornada in 2002. That is the weight of all of my gear packed on my bike. I do not think I have a bike that can handle that kind of load. I am old and fat.  So second I need a bike. I have four. But none would be good for the trip I have in mind. My mount...

I don't want my bike adventure to end

Image
I don't want my bike adventure to end. September 20, 2022 Twenty years ago I rode my bike to Littleton Colorado and moved in with Judy Neal, the next month we both started working at the Independent Living Center in Boulder and I ended my six-month bike adventure riding across country writing about Independent Living.  I looked back at that period of time in this three-part Retrospective. It highlights the photos I took along the way. You can read it at this link, this is part one: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mQ7MYSLGUnh4rTtvhhZ1tDSjomy53zuTxUg00OmLvGY/edit?usp=sharing But this blog is about my next trip. I do not know where it is and I am not in shape for a bicycle trip. Just in general, I need a bicycle, I need to get in shape to ride, and I want to include my passion for photography.  This blog is about my next bike adventure, or the adventure to create my next bike adventure. I think I am projecting adventure - it might be horrible.  Photo from my bike adventu...
